The Best Places to Eat in North Devon — Tried, Tested & Gluten‑Free Friendly
When you’re staying at Millbrook Cottages, Tree Top Escape, or Rose Cottage, you’re surrounded by some of the best eatery gems North Devon has to offer. We’ve savoured every plate, and are excited to share our personal top five: delicious, welcoming and excellent for gluten‑free diners (Bob is gluten‑intolerant—but not coeliac).
The Farmers Arms – Woolsery
Set within a lovingly restored Grade II-listed former coaching inn, this is what modern British dining in Devon is all about. The Birch Farm seasonal menu showcases produce straight from their own farm—and their Sunday roast sharing platters are legendary. We’ve found them incredibly attentive to gluten‑free needs, often surprising Bob with off‑menu dessert alternatives.

Tiffin Indian Kitchen & Bar – Barnstaple
Located in a Grade II listed old pub on Tuly Street, Tiffin is elegant, family‑run, and full of authentic flavours. Their gluten‑free menu is clearly labelled and they excel at accommodating dietary needs. One of our favourite spots in Barnstaple for sophisticated Indian dining with a welcoming twist.

Maiden Arch by Robert Bryant – Barnstaple
A tucked‑away fine dining gem offering modern British cuisine that’s nothing short of spectacular. With exceptional cocktails and a curated wine list, Maiden Arch created a tasting menu experience that effortlessly accommodated Bob’s gluten intolerance. If you’re celebrating, this is where you go.

New Coast Kitchen – Croyde
Stylish and relaxed, New Coast is set in the village heart of Croyde and perfect for both brunch and dinner. The outdoor seating is incredibly inviting—ideal for watching life go by with a glass of something refreshing. We love their clear gluten‑free labelling and friendly staff who understand dietary needs well.

Moran’s Restaurant & Cocktail Bar – Westward Ho!
Long adored by locals, Moran’s offers bold, gluten‑free curry dishes and vibrant Thai-influenced flavours. Great cocktails, buzzing atmosphere and dependable quality—this has been a reliable favourite for us for years, and they always handle Bob’s gluten sensitivity with ease.
