We're Bob and Kate, the owners of Millbrook, and we've been driving electric vehicles for over 10 years. We know the journey down to North Devon, the best charging stops along the route, and exactly what EV guests need when they arrive.
Our eco-friendly holiday cottages sit in a beautiful, peaceful corner of North Devon, and we've made it our mission to ensure your green getaway is genuinely stress-free — right down to having a charger waiting for you when you arrive.
EV Charging at Millbrook — What You Need to Know
🔌 We have a Voltshare 7kW Type 2 tethered charger on-site, with charging speed of 4–7kW depending on overall estate usage. We're also planning to install a second charger soon as demand grows.
🚗 Please let us know in advance if you plan to use the EV charger — either at the time of booking or by giving us a call. We want to make sure it's ready and available for you on arrival.
💷 EV charging is charged at £0.65 per kWh, payable via the Voltshare system. To use the charger, simply scan the QR code on the front panel on arrival, or download the Voltshare app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store before you travel.
⚡ Need a faster top-up? North Devon has a fantastic and growing network of high-speed public chargers — including CCS rapid chargers — for when you need a quick boost. We recommend using Zap-Map to find your nearest public charging point. As local EV drivers ourselves, we're always happy to share our favourite spots and tips for the area.

We know the journey well — we do it ourselves! The drive to North Devon in an electric vehicle is very manageable, and the charging infrastructure along the route has improved dramatically in recent years. We're happy to share our recommended charging stops along the M5 and A361 corridor, and to advise on the best apps and networks to use en route. Just drop us a message when you book and we'll send over our personal EV route notes.
Once you're here, North Devon is a wonderful place to explore by EV. The area has a growing number of high-speed public chargers, including rapid CCS chargers in Barnstaple and surrounding towns, making it easy to top up while you're out and about exploring the coastline, Exmoor and the stunning countryside on our doorstep.

Yes, please let us know when booking or by calling us ahead of your stay. This ensures the charger is available and ready for you when you arrive.
We have a Voltshare 7kW Type 2 tethered charger on-site. This is compatible with the vast majority of electric vehicles available in the UK. A second charger is planned for the near future.

Rose Cottage is a separate nearby property and doesn't have a dedicated Type 2 charger on-site. However, guests are very welcome to drive to the main estate to use the charger overnight. Rose Cottage also has a plug socket suitable for a granny charger, which is free overnight — just ask when you book.
Yes — Tree Top Escape, our intimate wedding venue at Millbrook Estate, has its own dedicated EV charger on-site. Perfect for couples and wedding guests arriving by electric vehicle.
